Natural Remedies for the Cold and Flu

Having a cold or flu is the worst. Your body is weak and your ambition is totally out the window. How can you naturally and safely beat a cold or the flu? There is not an exact cure for a cold, but there here are some ways for you to naturally remedy your cold or flu. These methods will make you better faster and also they will help ensure that your health does not get worse.

Stay Hydrated – Drink as much water as you can to fight off dehydration. You should drink 8 or more 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

Hot Steamy Shower – Hop in the shower and crank up the hot water. The steam helps ease your congestion.

Sleep – Now is when your body needs sleep the most. Be sure to give your body as much sleep as possible so that you have your best chances with your body fighting off the sickness.

Blow Your Nose Properly – A lot of people improperly blow their nose and cause earaches and sinus infections. Place one finger over the opposite nostril and gently blow your nose one nostril at a time. Gently push air through.

Irrigate Your Nose – Make your own salt water rinse to irrigate your nose. Salt-water rinsing helps break nasal congestion while also removing virus particles and bacteria from your nose.

Here’s a popular recipe:

Mix 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in 8 ounces of warm water. Fill a bulb syringe with this mixture. Lean your head over a sink, and using the bulb syringe, gently squirt the salt water into your nose. Hold one nostril closed by applying light finger pressure while squirting the salt mixture into the other nostril. Let it drain. Repeat two to three times, and then treat the other nostril.

Take In More Zinc – While zinc does not appear to help prevent colds, some research suggests it may help shorten cold symptom duration.
