Build your immunity

One of the most common reasons for people to suffer from cold and flu is low immunity. Eat fruits that are high in Vitamin C. This includes all the citrus fruits such as orange, sweet lime, tangerine and lemon. Drink green tea mixed with honey and a squeeze of fresh lime. The anti oxidants in the green tea help build immunity and prevent free radicals from causing further health issues. The honey keeps the insides warm and is great to strengthen one’s immune system.

Ginger and garlic are known as warm spices and can do wonders in preventing and treating cold and flu. Drop a cube of ginger in your tea every morning and soak a few leaves of basil in it before drinking it. This is great for preventing the common flu virus from hitting you.

Maintain hygiene

Sometimes, getting wet in the rain or holding handles at public transport is unavoidable. However, what you need to do is wash your hands once you return home. The flu virus is highly contagious and can easily enter the system. If you need to eat your meals outside your home carry a hand sanitizer to wipe your hands with it every now and then. Carry a pack of tissues if you are suffering from a bout of sneezing and coughing symptoms. This will prevent you from spreading the virus to others.

If you have to take antibiotics because of the severity of the virus attack, counter the residual antibodies it leaves in your body by eating berries, citrus fruits, ginger, garlic and green tea.
