For trying Cod Liver Oil with my own children, I can honestly say that this oil is wonderful (if your children can get past the strong fishy taste, and aftertase!).
The oil, extracted from cod liver, has many virtues that are indispensable for general health and well being. It is an excellent nutritional supplement for infants and children. It is also a preventative medicine against nutritional deficiencies, for both adults and children because of its high vitamin content A and D. Vitamin A is necessary for the development of bones, skin and eyes.
Vitamin A strengthens the immune system and regulates growth by codifying growth hormones. As for vitamin D, it helps prevent osteoporosis and slows the progression of this disease in their fifties and particularly among postmenopausal women. When properly administered, it helps prevent many types of cancer such as prostate, colon and breast.
Vitamin D also contributes to the prevention of autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. A brilliant theory published by German researchers in 2005 showed that vitamin D regulates blood pressure by inhibiting the excessive proliferation of smooth muscle of blood vessels and objecting to their calcification. In addition, the cod liver oil is an excellent source of omega-3 beneficial. The researchers looked at more seriously about the benefits of this essential fatty acid by observing the eating habits of Inuit in Greenland consuming mainly foods high in fat, including meat and fish oil, seal and whales. The researchers found that these tribes had rarely cardiovascular disease or rheumatoid arthritis. This study has allowed them to demonstrate that regular consumption of fatty material from marine sources such as the omega-3 ensures the regularity of the heart beat.
